Markiisittaren rikos is a Finnish-language translation of a work by E. T. A. Hoffmann, the German Romantic author celebrated for tales of the uncanny, the supernatural, and the psychologically disturbing. Hoffmann’s fiction — which includes Der Sandmann, Die Elixiere des Teufels, and countless shorter tales — profoundly influenced Edgar Allan Poe, Sigmund Freud, and generations of later writers.
