We (written 1920–1921, first published 1924) is the founding text of the modern dystopian novel. Set in a future totalitarian state called the One State, where citizens are known only by numbers and glass walls eliminate privacy, it follows D-503, a loyal engineer who begins to be undone by love and independent thought. Zamyatin wrote it as a direct satire of Soviet collectivism.

Aldous Huxley acknowledged his debt to We, and George Orwell’s 1984 is unthinkable without it. This free EPUB download brings one of the most historically important novels of the 20th century directly to your device.
