An Explorer’s Adventures in Tibet is Arnold Henry Savage Landor’s retelling of his celebrated and ill-fated expedition into the closed kingdom of Tibet at the end of the nineteenth century. Drawing on the same dramatic events recounted in his larger work, Landor relates his attempt to reach the forbidden interior, his capture by Tibetan authorities, and the imprisonment and torture that followed.

Aimed at a popular audience, the book emphasises adventure, danger, and the exotic landscapes of the high plateau. Landor describes the customs of the people, the hardships of travel, and his eventual escape with characteristic vividness and self-dramatisation. Though his accounts were sometimes questioned, the narrative captures the late-Victorian appetite for tales of daring exploration in remote and inaccessible corners of the world.
