Blackwood’s Edinburgh Magazine was one of the most influential literary and political journals of 19th-century Britain. Founded in 1817, it published fiction, poetry, reviews, and political commentary, attracting and shaping many of the major writers of the age. This particular issue dates from June 1845 and reflects the wide-ranging intellectual culture of the Victorian period. Note that this is a periodical of mixed authorship rather than a work of Russian literature as such — it may appear in this collection due to content touching on Russian affairs or literature.

A genuine primary-source document of Victorian cultural life, this public-domain issue is now freely available as an EPUB download for historians, literature scholars, and curious readers alike.
