Henry Vaughan (1621–1695), who styled himself ‘the Silurist’ after the ancient British tribe of his native Wales, is one of the finest Metaphysical poets of the seventeenth century. Volume II of his poems gathers sacred and secular verse marked by a luminous, meditative quality that anticipates the Romantics — his poem ‘The World’ opens with one of the most celebrated lines in English religious poetry.

Less famous than Herbert or Donne, Vaughan rewards discovery. This free EPUB presents Volume II cleanly formatted with poem titles and stanza breaks preserved throughout.
