Drawing on the tarsila, the guarded genealogies of the Muslim datus, Saleeby reconstructs the history of the Magindanao sultanate on Mindanao, including Sultan Qudrat’s wars with Spain in the 1630s and 1640s. He then translates and discusses the written laws of the Moros and two Sulu orations, giving English readers some of the first direct access to these sources.
