William Howitt, a Quaker writer, set out to show how far the conduct of Christian nations in their colonies fell from the gospel they professed. He surveys the Portuguese and the papal grants, the Spanish in Hispaniola, Cuba, Jamaica and Mexico, and later the Dutch, French and English, including the East India Company in India.
A passionate early anti-colonial history that still makes uncomfortable reading. Download the free EPUB.
