To mark his fifth wedding anniversary, Baron von Ottringel, a self-satisfied Prussian officer, agrees to a caravan tour of the Kentish countryside with a party of English friends. He narrates the trip himself, complaining about horses, rain, washing-up and his wife’s new independence, never realising how thoroughly he gives himself away.
Von Arnim’s sharpest comedy, a skewering of male vanity by the author of Elizabeth and Her German Garden. Download the free EPUB.
