William Brown, with his gang of Outlaws, spends these stories trying to do good, make money, help romance along or simply amuse himself, and leaves wreckage behind him every time. Elder brothers, visiting aunts, his sister’s suitors and the whole village suffer as William’s schemes misfire, all observed with Crompton’s dry, affectionate wit.
