Collins’s last story collection, published in 1887, gathers fourteen tales with paired titles. A widow feels the touch of her dead husband’s spirit in ‘Mrs. Zant and the Ghost’, a clergyman is drawn back to a dead Frenchwoman in ‘Miss Jéromette and the Clergyman’, and others turn on mistaken identities, secret marriages, landladies, governesses and a prophetic fortune-teller.
Late, neatly plotted Collins, ideal for readers who enjoyed The Woman in White and want shorter fare. Download the free EPUB.
