Butterworth was born near Mount Hope in Rhode Island, the old home of Massasoit, and here imagines the boyhood of Massasoit’s son Metacomet, later known as King Philip. The young Wampanoag shares the woods with tame animals and the children around him, showing them the birds and creatures of the forest in the early years of New England.
A gentle nature story for children; its picture of Native life reflects the attitudes of the 1890s. Download the free EPUB.
