Minnie’s mother tells her stories about parrots, especially Poll, a bird whose funny tricks delighted and dismayed a household: she greets a traveller, misbehaves at a party, raids the bacon and raises the alarm to save the silver. Mixed with the anecdotes are facts about parrots and the gentle lesson that animals are part of God’s creation and deserve kindness.
