Ashe Marson, a bored writer of detective stories, and Joan Valentine, a resourceful young woman down on her luck, both take jobs as servants at Blandings Castle. Their aim is the same: to recover a valuable scarab that the absent-minded Lord Emsworth has pocketed from an American millionaire’s collection, in a house where everyone seems to be after it.
