Visiting New York, Psmith finds a mild family paper called Cosy Moments and, with sub-editor Billy Windsor, turns it into a crusading weekly against the owner of verminous tenements. Their campaign brings visits from gangsters, gunfire and the protection of a cat-loving tough named Bat Jarvis.
