Plantagenet Palliser, Duke of Omnium, reluctantly becomes head of a coalition government and finds the office a torment to his scrupulous temper, while his wife Glencora throws herself into hospitality on his behalf. Alongside runs the story of Ferdinand Lopez, a handsome speculator of unknown family, who wins the heart of a barrister’s daughter against her father’s wishes.
The fifth Palliser novel and one of Trollope’s sharpest studies of politics, money and marriage. Download the free EPUB.
