Ellen King, who helps keep the village post office, is disgusted by the ragged tramp boy who comes in to buy a loaf. But Paul Blackthorn proves kinder than his looks, and as he finds work nearby he becomes bound up with the Kings: their invalid brother Alfred, the wayward Harold, and the choices of confirmation and conduct each must face.
A tender moral tale of village life, written for young readers by a master of the form. Download the free EPUB.
