Pisistratus Caxton, the narrator of The Caxtons, sets out to write a novel of English life. His story gathers the squire of Hazeldean and his family, a parson, an exiled Italian philosopher and his daughter, a gifted village boy who becomes a poet, and Randal Leslie, a cold young schemer working every connection on his way to Parliament.
A long, generous panorama of mid-Victorian England, for readers who like Trollope and want more. Download the free EPUB.
