In 1818 the young geologist Henry Rowe Schoolcraft set out from the lead-mining country of Missouri into the little-known Ozark uplands. He records springs, caves and ores, hunters and backwoods settlers, the Osage, and the hardships of wilderness travel, and this 1853 edition adds his thoughts on the route of Hernando de Soto.
An early account of the Ozarks by the man later famous for his work among the Ojibwe. Download the free EPUB.
