Ginsburg, a Hebrew scholar, translates the Song of Songs afresh and reads it literally: a Shulamite maiden, betrothed to a shepherd, resists the riches and pleasures with which King Solomon tries to win her. A long introduction covers the book’s title, canonicity, design and author, and surveys how Jewish and Christian interpreters have read it through the centuries.
A learned Victorian commentary, still useful for its history of interpretation. Download the free EPUB.
