At the king’s command the noble Amintor breaks his troth to Aspatia and marries the proud Evadne. On the wedding night she tells him the truth: she is the king’s mistress, and the marriage is a cover. Torn between honour and loyalty to the crown, Amintor confides in Evadne’s brother Melantius, a soldier who will not forgive.
One of the finest Jacobean tragedies, admired for its dark power and its daring questions about kingship. Download the free EPUB.
