Hassan, a humble confectioner of old Baghdad, is lovesick for the beautiful Yasmin when he saves the disguised Caliph Haroun ar Raschid in the night. Raised to favour, he is drawn into court splendour, a beggars’ rebellion and the fate of the lovers Rafi and Pervaneh, until the cruelty of power sends him off on the golden road to Samarkand.
Flecker’s lush, cruel Eastern verse drama, famous for its poetry and its 1923 West End success. Download the free EPUB.
