On the island of Candy, as Crete was then called, the law grants the soldier who wins the day the reward of his choosing, and old general Cassilanes finds his own son Antinous claiming the honour. Around their quarrel move the proud princess Erota, the lovesick Prince of Cyprus, a scheming Venetian lord and a foolish servant.
