By the late seventeenth century Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus survived on the London stage chiefly as a show of devils, tricks and clowning. The actor William Mountfort cut it down into a farce, keeping speeches of the original alongside new comic business, and this edition, published in 1697, comes with a modern introduction and notes.
A curious document of how Restoration audiences enjoyed Marlowe, for students of theatre history. Download the free EPUB.
