Liliom is a swaggering carousel barker in a Budapest amusement park who falls for Julie, a young servant girl, and loses his job for her. Out of work, quick with his fists and goaded by the shady Ficsur, he drifts toward a robbery, and the play follows him beyond this life to a heavenly court in a legend of seven scenes.
