Shipwrecked on the coast of Ireland, Patrick comes before the pagan king Egerio with a reckless soldier, Ludovico Enio, whose crimes seem past forgiving. As Patrick preaches, the sinner’s road leads at last to the legendary cave in Lough Derg where the living may pass through purgatory, with comic relief from the servant Paul.
