Charles Sturt led two expeditions in search of the inland sea he believed lay at Australia’s heart. In the drought of 1828–29 he followed the Macquarie River until it dwindled into ponds and found the Darling; then he ran the Murrumbidgee by whaleboat into the Murray and down to its mouth, rowing back upstream half-starved, with notes on the land and the Aboriginal peoples he met.
A classic of Australian exploration, for readers who like expeditions told by the men who suffered them. Download the free EPUB.
