George Arthur Rose is a poor, embittered London writer once refused the priesthood. Without warning the Church makes amends, ordains him, and a deadlocked conclave elects him Pope. As Hadrian VII he sweeps away pomp, quarrels with cardinals and kings, and tries to remake the politics of Europe. Rolfe, who called himself Baron Corvo, poured his own grievances into the book.
A strange, brilliant fantasy of revenge and wish-fulfilment that became a lasting cult classic. Download the free EPUB.
