Violet Strange seems the silliest belle of the New York season, but she quietly works for a private inquiry agent on cases that involve women of society. Nine problems follow, among them a theft at a ball, a second bullet, a haunted grotto, a house of clocks and a missing thirteenth page, before Violet finally reveals why she does it.
