Lillie Dulcimer founds the Old Maids’ Club in her sweet seventeenth year, with herself as president and a strict rule against anyone who might be tempted to marry. Applicants arrive one after another to tell their stories, each a comic sketch of courtship, while Lillie’s own attitude to love is quietly put to the test.
A witty companion to Zangwill’s The Bachelors’ Club, full of paradox and gentle satire of the marriage market. Download the free EPUB.
