Sam Slick, the fast-talking Yankee clockmaker, turns up at the Squire’s door again, and the two set off along the coast of Nova Scotia exchanging yarns about clippers and steamers, women’s hearts, learning Gaelic, fiddling and dancing. His dialect wit is that of the 1850s, including caricatured speech from a Black servant.
