Morgiana Crump, daughter of the landlord of the Bootjack Hotel near Berkeley Square, has a string of suitors and a voice worth money. She marries the dashing Mr. Walker, who lands in the Fleet prison for debt while she climbs toward fame on the stage, with a kind-hearted tailor in the wings. Shorter sketches of other ill-matched couples complete the book.
