Left at a foundling hospital with only a note and a banknote, Japhet Newland is apprenticed to the eccentric apothecary Mr. Cophagus and then sets out to find his father. His quest leads him among quacks, gypsies, Quakers, swindlers and London society, each false trail more comic than the last.
Marryat on dry land, a picaresque comedy written in the line of Fielding and Smollett. Download the free EPUB.
