Tired of the generals in the Century magazine each claiming to have won the decisive battle, Peck sets out to tell the true story of the war from the bottom. His raw recruit describes enlisting, his quarters, his horse and his first ride, then stumbles through camp life, foraging and a comic search of a suspected woman’s dress, bustle and all.
Broad 1887 humour from the creator of Peck’s Bad Boy, later governor of Wisconsin. Download the free EPUB.
