Captain Cy Whittaker returns to Bayport after long years away, reopens his family’s empty house on Whittaker’s Hill and sets about restoring it to how it was in his boyhood. Then a small girl with nobody to care for her comes into his life, and the bachelor captain and his cronies Asaph Tidditt and Bailey Bangs take on fatherhood and the town gossips.
