A little boy of almost five, who always wears overalls and goes everywhere with his cat, watches a new house rise near his home. Each chapter follows a different crew: the digging-men, the masons, the carpenters, the plumbers, the shingle and clapboard men and the painters, with a dinner-time story about Jonah along the way.
