After a summer by the sea, the Dinsmores, Travillas and Raymonds return home, and Captain Raymond’s motherless children Max, Lulu and Grace must settle into life at Ion with their young stepmother Violet and her family. Lulu’s quick temper and the children’s small deceptions, such as letting the cat take the blame, give the book its lessons.
