A muffled stranger slips into a small Third Avenue drug shop, and the clerk behind the counter, James Cromwell, glimpses a way to make his fortune out of a rich man’s estate. The rightful heir is a boy who must survive treachery, an attempt on his life and a journey begun with ten water-soaked dollars.
Alger at his most melodramatic, with a real villain and the familiar rewards of pluck and honesty. Download the free EPUB.
