A Union veteran and publisher wrote this study for the hundredth anniversary of Lincoln’s birth in 1909. It traces Lincoln’s rise, his handling of a quarrelsome cabinet and the 1864 election, and his leadership through the war, and it reprints the Cooper Union speech of February 1860 with notes by Charles C. Nott and Cephas Brainerd.
A short life by a man who fought in the war, valuable too for its annotated text of the speech that made Lincoln a national figure. Download the free EPUB.
