In 1837 Ignaz Pallme, a Bohemian merchant who spoke Arabic after years in Egypt, set out for Kordofan, the farthest province of the Viceroy of Egypt, to see whether trade could be done without middlemen. He describes its rivers, soil and climate, its history and government under Egyptian rule, and the customs of its peoples, including the nomadic Baggara.
A valuable early European eyewitness account of the Sudan, written with the attitudes of its time. Download the free EPUB.
