In 1923 the Egyptian diplomat Ahmed Hassanein led a camel caravan across the Libyan Desert from the Mediterranean to the Sudan, fixing positions that Rohlfs had only estimated and reaching the lost oases of Arkenu and Uweinat. He describes his Bedouin guides, sandstorms, thirst, desert prayer and the Senussi lands he crossed.
A classic of Saharan exploration, notable as the work of an Egyptian rather than a European traveller. Download the free EPUB.
