Between 1850 and 1854 the Swedish explorer Charles John Andersson made two expeditions into south-western Africa. The first, partly with Francis Galton, crossed the lands of the Damara and the Ovambo, while the second reached Lake Ngami by a route thought impossible, through thunderstorms, locust plagues, mission stations and long hunts for big game.
A classic of African exploration, rich in natural history; its attitudes toward local peoples are those of the 1850s. Download the free EPUB.
