Writing to his painter friend Louis from his country château, a young man explains his months of silence. He has inherited the fabulous estate of his adventurous uncle, and with it the uncle’s harem of Eastern wives, whose education, jealousies and charms now fill his days as he tries to reconcile French manners with Oriental ones.
A risqué comic novel of the 1880s; its exotic fantasy of the East is very much of its time. Download the free EPUB.
