Diggory Trevanock, a new boy who meets his class’s laughter at his name by spelling it out with a grin, soon forms a triple alliance with two friends. Together they rout the Philistines of their form, found a supper club, hatch a gunpowder plot, cause trouble in the Sixth, and play their part in the great Wraxby match.
