Between 1858 and 1862 the Scottish-born surveyor John McDouall Stuart led six expeditions north from Adelaide into the unknown interior. His day-by-day journals, edited by William Hardman, record water, feed and distances as the party pushed past Lake Torrens, fixed the centre of the continent, and finally crossed Australia from south to north.
A classic record of endurance whose route the Overland Telegraph and the Stuart Highway would later follow. Download the free EPUB.
