The American ship Mentor was wrecked in the Palau Islands in 1832. Horace Holden and Benjamin Nute survived to spend two years on Tobi, then called Lord North’s Island, where hunger, forced labour and tattooing marked their captivity before rescue. The account uses the language of its time about the islanders.
A gripping early American captivity narrative of the Pacific, and a rare record of Tobi. Download the free EPUB.
