An hour before the race, Charles Cothill and his golden-haired love Em talk together in the March sunshine; he has wagered his future on his horse, Right Royal, in a great steeplechase over the jumps. Masefield follows the whole race in galloping couplets, from the paddock and the start through falls, refusals and the long last stretch, with the horse’s own thoughts winging to its rider.
A thrilling verse narrative by the future Poet Laureate, beloved of horse lovers and readers of Reynard the Fox. Download the free EPUB.
