General Browne, home from the American war, calls on an old friend at his castle and is lodged in a fine old bedroom hung with tapestry. In the morning he wants only to leave, and must explain the lady in the old-fashioned sacque who visited him in the night. A second short piece describes an aged Border champion watching his son fight in his place.
Two brief tales first written for the annual The Keepsake, showing Scott as a teller of fireside ghost stories. Download the free EPUB.
