A sinister trio leaves a house in London with a parcel and a joke about Mr. Joseph Walters. What follows is a chain of encounters in which strangers in the streets of the city tell Machen’s idlers stories of dark valleys, ancient races in the Welsh hills, a missing coin of Tiberius and a drug that dissolves a man.
A cornerstone of weird fiction from 1895, whose Black Seal and White Powder episodes influenced Lovecraft and generations of horror writers. Download the free EPUB.
