The collection opens with Goblin Market, in which the sisters Laura and Lizzie hear the goblin men crying their fruits by the brook and one of them cannot resist. It goes on through ballads, devotional verse and short lyrics such as A Birthday, Remember, Dream-Land and In the Round Tower at Jhansi.
Rossetti’s music and her mix of longing, faith and grief make this a fine single volume for any lover of Victorian verse. Download the free EPUB.
