Coventry Patmore, author of The Angel in the House, wrote these odes after the death of his first wife and his conversion to Catholicism. In free, irregular lines of his own devising, they move from Saint Valentine’s Day and domestic memory through grief to the soul’s love for God, with later poems such as Amelia added.
A major and still underrated Victorian religious poet at his most original. Download the free EPUB.
